New Referral Guide for Practices
We have developed a referral guide to help practices in accessing the hospital's services. The majority of services can be accessed via Choose and Book but there are some exceptions, such as rapid access services and diagnostics. This guide gives full instructions about how to refer to these services, and we therefore hope you find it useful. You can download the guide here. Please note that this is an updated version of the Guide previously sent to practices in K&C. Any feedback is very welcome so please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any comments.
Reminder of Choose & Book 'no slots' process
If you attempt to make a Choose and Book referral but there are no appointments available to book, please ask the patient to call the national appointments line (0845 6088888). If there are still no appointments available the national appointments line will then pass the patient's details on to us and we will contact the patient directly to book an appointment. At this point we will be unable to view the patient's referral letter, so we will contact your practice to ask this to be resent. The national appointments line will tell patients to return to their GP if they haven't heard from the hospital within 2 weeks, so we endeavour to contact patients within this timeframe. We apologise for the inconvenience which this process causes for practices and patients, but we are working to alleviate this problem by increasing the appointments available on Choose and Book.
Launch of NW London Paeds Surgical Network
From 1st April 2010 the eight North West London PCTs have commissioned a network for paediatric general surgery and urology in North West London. The network hub and lead centre for complex neonatal and paediatric surgery is Chelsea and Westminster Hospital Foundation Trust. The network will cover all acute Trusts in North West London but referral pathways for GPs will initially remain the same for both elective and emergency patients (i.e. refer the patient to the hospital of their choice for assessment and they will be listed for surgery at the most appropriate hospital).
We have set up a number of workstreams to coordinate the development of the network and patient pathways so if you are interested in being involved please email email@example.com.
Full details on the network and referral pathways can be found here.
New Referral Form for DXA Scans
Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for DXA scans should now be made on this new referral form (EMIS LV, EMIS PCS, Vision). The new form has been developed to ensure compliance with Ionising Radiation [Medical Exposure] Regulations (IRMER) and to adhere to National Osteoporosis Society guidelines. The previous form did not always contain sufficient information to justify the DXA procedure and the new version brings us into line with other Trusts.

Preoperative Assessment Relocated
As part of improvement works currently underway in the hospital, Preoperative Assessment Centre will permanently be relocating from the ground floor to the lower ground floor next week. The service will continue operating as normal and no appointments have been cancelled. Flyers are being developed to support patients finding their way to the new centre and posters will be placed in Outpatient Departments and in the lifts.
